The Novel Coronavirus

Our Dear Patients

As you may know, the first case of 2019 novel Coronavirus has been confirmed in the GTA on January 25, 2020. Please read and help us ensure that you and your family are safe from this infection.

It is important to remember that at this time there is no evidence of the spread of Novel Coronavirus within the community without direct contact with someone who contracted the illness in Wuhan, China.

If you or a family member have traveled to Wuhan, China, have been in contact with a person at risk and/or recently been on a plane, and have developed symptoms (see below) of 2019 novel coronavirus infection, avoid contact with others and call the office prior to coming to the clinic. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE CLINIC or to the After-Hours Clinic without prior approval. We are advising this in order to prevent the spread of the virus and appreciate your cooperation.

Symptoms range from common to severe respiratory illnesses and include:

  • fever
  • cough
  • difficulty breathing
  • pneumonia, kidney failure and death in severe cases

    • There are no specific treatments for coronaviruses, and there is no vaccine that protects against coronaviruses. Most people with common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own.

Human coronaviruses typically spread from an infected person to others via:

      • the air by coughing and sneezing
      • close personal contact such as touching or shaking hands
      • touching an object or surface with the virus on it, the touching your mouth, nose or eyes before you wash your hands
      • rarely, fecal contamination.

If you have not already done so, we strongly encourage you to still get a flu shot.
